Description

We Need Books aims to create inclusive spaces which promote education and interculturalism and contribute to the strengthening of social cohesion.

We Need Books founded Athens’ first Multilingual Library and Community Centre in November 2019. Situated in the city’s most diverse neighbourhood, the library offers access to books in over 20 languages, including Arabic and Farsi, free language courses and creative workshops for the young and old. It functions as a community centre which promotes family literacy, fosters social inclusion of refugees and migrants and offers opportunities for networking and socialising. We are aiming to also work on developing skills programs that empower women.

Competence and Expertise Offered

Our main area of expertise is the promotion of social integration. By founding a safe space which caters to the needs of locals as well are refugees and migrants, by engaging the local community in our projects, by running educational programs with an emphasis on improving language skills, by making educational and recreational resources available to all for free, by creating and utilising a multicultural international group of volunteers in Greece and overseas.
