Rough guide to expenses in Norway
Whether you are planning a study trip to Norway or working on developing a budget for your project, you need an overview of prices and expenses in Norway. This guide offers a starting point. Expenses in Norway
There are a number of low-cost airlines that fly to Norway so with proper planning the air tickets may not be that expensive. You should count on paying on average about 300 – 350 euros per ticket.
Air travel within Norway (e.g. to the North or West) may cost the same as flying to Norway.
Airport transfer from Oslo Airport/Gardermoen to Oslo
• By shuttle bus: 20 euro
• By Airport express train (so-called “flytoget”): 20 euro
• Regular train: 11 euro (only two minutes slower than the Airport express train)
Taxi is generally expensive.
Public transport in Oslo is rather well integrated with trams, buses, metros and boats. The same ticket system is used on all public transport services called Ruter.
• Single ticket valid one hour: 3.8 euro
• 24-hour ticket: 11 euro
• 7-day ticket: 26 euro
• Sandwiches: 6 – 10 euro
• Soft drink: 3 – 4 euro
• Coffee or tea: 4 – 5 euro
• A hamburger, a pizza, or a sandwich meal at a café: 15 – 23 euro
• Pasta dish at restaurants: 17 – 25 euro.
• The main fish or meat course at a restaurant: 30 – 33 euro.
• A beer at a pub/restaurant: 8 – 10 euro
• Soft drink/water at restaurant: 5 – 6 euro
The average monthly salary for the sector can range between 4300 and 5800 euros per month before taxes (usually about 30% of income). In addition, employers also pay an extra employer tax and social expenses that also amount to real salary costs. Make sure you clarify this with your potential Norwegian partner.
Average honoraria for a lecture/workshop: 315 – 525 euro (depending on person, length, qualifications, preparation time, etc.)
The price for auditing of incurred costs in projects varies but can be 400 – 1000 euros or more depending on the size, extent of work, auditing company etc.
Renting of venues: from 425 euro upwards
Per diems in Norway: 801 NOK/day (20% breakfast, 30% lunch, 50% dinner)
