Joanna Szymańska

Joanna Szymańska joined ARTICLE 19 in Poland in 2016 where she focuses on issues related to freedom of expression in Central and Eastern Europe – including media freedom, civic space and digital rights. She is an experienced project coordinator, trainer and researcher in the field of freedom of expression.

Prior to joining ARTICLE 19, Joanna Szymańska worked at Freedom House, supporting investigative journalists in Eastern Europe. Between 2010 and 2014, she gained experience in project management working with local NGOs in Poland and France focusing on equality and non-discrimination.

Szymańska holds a M.A. in Russian studies from University of Gdansk and postgraduate diploma in International law from Warsaw University.
